Vegea
Vegea was established in 2016, with the aim to promote the integration between chemistry and agriculture thought the development of new eco-sustainable materials in fashion, furniture, automotive and packaging.
By leveraging the use of renewable resources as an alternative to fossil ones, their production processes are based on the exploitation of vegetable and recycled raw materials.
Vegea applies the principles of Circular Economy with the main goal to reduce the use of virgin fossil feedstocks by using secondary raw materials. They produce technical fabrics characterised by the high content of vegetal, renewable, and recycled raw materials from agriculture, domestic and industrial waste: mostly grape leftovers from winemaking, vegetal oils and natural fibres.
Their role in PESCO-UP
In the PESCO-UP project, Vegea will develop, together with Vito, new materials obtained from recycled polyester. Thanks to their know-how in the synthesis of innovative polyurethane materials, Vegea will synthesize new PES-derived polyurethanes (PU) by reacting PES fractions with various isocyanate compounds and co-polyols. Vegea will also collaborate at the development of a PU demonstrator.
They will take care of the production on a pre-industrial scale of coated technical fabrics. This demonstrator will be produced from the recycled polyols obtained in the project and biobased components and additives. The resulting materials will be tested for chemical, physical and mechanical performance and will finally be used for the development of a garment as a final demonstrator.
